While Fred Zeglin was working on the second edition of his Wildcat Cartridges book for Gun Digest he interviewed Rich Sherman about his line of wildcat cartridges.

The 6.5 Sherman was the first ever wildcat created by Rich Sherman in about 2000.  It gained popularity over time, This cartridge is based on the 270 Winchester case. Very similar to the 270 Gibbs. A result of his appreciation of the 6.5-06 Ackley Improved. Sherman wanted even more case capacity that delivered the same ballistics as the 6.5 Gibbs. The 6.5 Sherman accomplishes just that with a .300” neck length, Gibbs necks are normally called out at .250”.

Due to the popularity of his first creation, Rich has created a whole line-up of cartridges that his customers identify as “Shermanized”.  I asked what they meant by that, Sherman said he uses very limited body taper, a 40 degree shoulder like Ackley and he moved the shoulder forward. So, these are true wildcats as you must form your brass in dies or buy Sherman’s headstamped brass.
